Introduction to Arithmetic Groups
Dave Witte ;
Date 9 Jun 2001
Subject Differential Geometry; Group Theory; Number Theory; Representation Theory MSC-class: 53C35 | math.DG math.GR math.NT math.RT
AbstractThis revised version of a book in progress on arithmetic groups and locally symmetric spaces contains a couple of additional chapters, and many minor errors have been corrected, although others probably remain. The proposed table of contents is less ambitious than in the first draft, and the title has been changed to reflect this. Chapters that have been written so far are: 1) What is a locally symmetric space?; 2) Geometer’s introduction to R-rank and Q-rank; 3) Introduction to semisimple Lie groups; 4) Some of the structure of semisimple Lie groups; 5) Basic properties of lattices; 6) What is an arithmetic lattice?; 7) Division algebras and Hermitian forms; 8) Central division algebras over number fields; 9) Examples of lattices; 10) Real rank; 11) Q-rank; 12) Arithmetic lattices in classical groups.
