Growing static and dynamic length scales in a glass-forming liquid | François Sausset
; Gilles Tarjus
; | Date: |
1 Sep 2009 | Abstract: | By studying a glass-forming liquid model in which the local structural order
is well identified, namely a monodisperse atomic liquid in the hyperbolic
(negatively curved) plane, we show that the spatial extension of local order
controls the slowdown of relaxation. We find that the associated static length
scale and the "dynamic" length that characterizes correlations in the dynamics
are proportional and grow as temperature decreases. However, a low-temperature
crossover occurs to a regime in which the former saturates as a result of
frustration whereas dynamic correlations keep building up, albeit at a slower
rate. | Source: | arXiv, 0909.0201 | Services: | Forum | Review | PDF | Favorites |
