A mechanism of almost perfect energy transfer in Fenna-Matthews-Olson complex
Robert Alicki ; Wieslaw Miklaszewski ;
Date 1 Jul 2011
AbstractThe Wigner-Weisskopf-type model describing the energy transfer between two centers mediated by a continuum of energy levels, developed in cite{Alicki11}, is applied to the Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) photosynthetic complex. This pigment-protein complex mediates the excitation energy transfer from the antenna to the reaction center with a remarkably high efficiency. The proposed model provides a simple resonance mechanism of this phenomenon employing exciton coherent motion. A coupling to the vibrational environment is a necessary component of this mechanism as well as a fine tuning of the FMO complex Hamiltonian.
