Heavy-Electron Formation and Bipolaronic Transition in the Anharmonic Holstein Model
Takahiro Fuse ; Yoshiaki Ono ; Takashi Hotta ;
Date 4 Oct 2011
AbstractEmergence of bipolaronic phase and formation of heavy-electron state in the anharmonic Holstein model are investigated with the use of the dynamical mean-field theory in combination with an exact diagonalization method. For weak anharmonicity, it is confirmed that the first-order bipolaronic transition occurs from the observation of discontinuity in the behavior of several physical quantities. When the anharmonicity is gradually increased, bipolaronic transition temperature is suppressed and critical values of electron-phonon coupling constant for bipolaronic transition are reduced. For strong anharmonicity, the bipolaronic transition eventually changes to crossover behavior. Effect of anharmonicity on the formation of heavy-electron state near the bipolaronic transition and the crossover region is discussed in detail.
