Drop-Port Study of Microresonator Frequency Combs: Pump Saturation and Power Transfer
Pei-Hsun Wang ; Yi Xuan ; Li Fan ; Leo Tom Varghese ; Jian Wang ; Daniel E. Leaird ; Minghao Qi ; Andrew M. Weiner ;
Date 31 May 2013
AbstractWe use a drop-port geometry to study power transfer in on-chip microresonator frequency comb generators. In sharp contrast with the traditional transmission geometry, we observe smooth output spectra with comparable powers in the pump and adjacent comb lines. For the first time to our knowledge, a saturation behavior of the optical pump in the microresonator is observed, suggesting clamping of the parametric gain. A nonlinear coupling effect, which results from frequency comb-induced pump saturation, is also identified through a simple model.
