Perpetuum motion of a mobile impurity in a one-dimensional quantum gas
Oleg Lychkovskiy ;
Date 28 Aug 2013
AbstractWe consider noninteracting spinless fermions in one dimension and a single particle of another species ("impurity") which interacts with the fermions repulsively. Initially the fermions are in the ground state of the noninteracting Hamiltonian (Fermi sea), and the impurity moves with some momentum. We examine what momentum the impurity will possess at infinite time. A lower bound on this asymptotic momentum is rigorously derived, provided the initial momentum is below some threshold. The existence of such lower bound implies the perpetuum motion of the impurity in the one-dimensional Fermi gas.
