Interpreting the 750 GeV diphoton excess by the singlet extension of the Manohar-Wise Model

Date 21 Dec 2015
AbstractThe evidence of a new scalar particle $X$ from the 750 GeV diphoton excess, and the absence of any other signal of new physics at the LHC so far suggest the existence of new colored scalars, which can induce through loop effects the $X g g$ and $X gamma gamma$ couplings.Motivated by this idea, we extend the Monohar-Wise model by adding one gauge singlet. The resulting theory then predicts three color-octet scalars $S_i$ and one singlet dominated scalar $phi$, and the color-octet scalars may act as mediators to induce the $phi gg$ and $phi gamma gamma$ interactions. After these analyses, we find the diphoton excess can be explained at $1 sigma$ level by the process $ g g o phi o gamma gamma$, and the best point in our model predicts $chi_{min}^2=2.43$, which corresponds to a $p$-value of $0.66$. We also consider the constraints from various Run I signals, and we conclude that, although these constraints are powerful in limiting the parameter space of our model, the best point and its nearby parameter region are unaffected.
