AbstractEfimov effect in few-body physics shows many interesting properties and the most prominent one is discrete scale invariance. Here we report the discovery of log-periodic oscillations on the magnetoresistance of stoichiometric single-crystal ZrTe5 in the ultra-quantum regime, which are virtually the most accurate manifestation of the discrete scale invariance so far with up to five periods. Characterized by this feature, the Efimov bound states have been firstly revealed in a fermionic system and even in any condensed matter systems, by showing up to five observable bound states for the first time. The observation of the clear discrete scale invariance not only provides new insight into the nature of three-dimensional electronic states beyond the quantum limit but also is a breakthrough in Efimov physics.
