Inverse Freezing in Mean-Field Models of Fragile Glasses
Mauro Sellitto ;
Date 14 Mar 2006
Subject Soft Condensed Matter; Statistical Mechanics
AbstractWe introduce a class of disordered spin models suitable for studying inverse freezing phenomena in fragile glass-forming liquids. We investigate the thermodynamic behaviour in the presence of a crystal field and determine the static and dynamic structural glass transition line. The former one can be either continuous or discontinuous in thermodynamic sense. At high crystal field there is first-order transition line between two paramagnetic, fluid phases terminating at a critical point. When the interacting degrees of freedom are entropically favoured an inverse static glass transition and a double inverse dynamic freezing appear in the phase diagram.
