28 Jun 2006 | Subject: | Strongly Correlated Electrons | Abstract: | We introduce a new type of Gutzwiller variational wavefunction for correlated electrons coupled to phonons which treats on equal footing electronic and phononic degrees of freedom. We apply this wavefunction to the Hubbard-Holstein model. In the infinite-coordination limit, where the averages on the wavefunctions can be carried out exactly, we find a remarkable agreement with dynamical mean-field theory, which is the exact solution in this limit. In particular, the method correctly describes, in the limit of an infinite Hubbard $U$, the polaron formation as a smooth crossover, as opposed to previous variational methods. | Source: | arXiv, cond-mat/0606717 | Services: | Forum | Review | PDF | Favorites |
