5 Jan 2007 | Subject: | Mesoscopic Systems and Quantum Hall Effect; Materials Science | Abstract: | We proposed a two-dimensional (2D) system in which an external magnetic (B) field is applied such as to induce a vertically polarized spin current, and provide a topological gauge field that separates conduction electrons of opposite spins in the transverse direction. Additionally, the vertical E field of the 2D-electron gas (2DEG) produces a SU(2) gauge field which reinforces the effect of the gauge. The system thus provides a tunable spin Hall effect, in which the applied B and E fields can be used to modulate the transverse spin current. Additionally, modulation of SU(2) force to balance force could lead to the cancellation of the spin Hall effect. | Source: | arXiv, cond-mat/0701111 | Services: | Forum | Review | PDF | Favorites |
