AbstractHighly deformed Pleistocene mudstones from the inner wall of the Aleutian Trench and from the continental rise of the Gulf of Mexico show incipient slaty cleavage defined by the orientation of platy and elongate detrital minerals parallel to the axial surfaces of folds.
