Rate limit for photoassociation of a Bose-Einstein condensate | Juha Javanainen

22 Aug 2001 | Journal: | Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 090403 (2002). | Subject: | Soft Condensed Matter; Atomic Physics; Chemical Physics | cond-mat.soft physics.atom-ph physics.chem-ph quant-ph | Abstract: | We simulate numerically the photodissociation of molecules into noncondensate atom pairs that accompanies photoassociation of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate into a molecular condensate. Such rogue photodissociation sets a limit on the achievable rate of photoassociation. Given the atom density
ho and mass m, the limit is approximately 6hbar
ho^{2/3}/m. At low temperatures this is a more stringent restriction than the unitary limit of scattering theory. | Source: | arXiv, cond-mat/0108349 | Other source: | [GID 1059408] pmid11863986 | Services: | Forum | Review | PDF | Favorites |
