Spatial Order in Liquid Crystals: Computer Simulations of Systems of Ellipsoids
Friederike Schmid ; Nguyen H. Phuong ;
Date 23 Aug 2002
Subject Materials Science; Soft Condensed Matter; Statistical Mechanics | cond-mat.mtrl-sci cond-mat.soft cond-mat.stat-mech
AbstractComputer simulations of simple model systems for liquid crystals are briefly reviewed, with special emphasis on systems of ellipsoids. First, we give an overview over some of the most commonly studied systems (ellipsoids, Gay-Berne particles, spherocylinders). Then we discuss the structure of the nematic phase in the bulk and at interfaces.
