AbstractGenerally the neutrino experiments have big volume of target mass because the neutrino has too small cross section of interaction to detect.So the large area of PMTs are needed in large quantity usually.The neutrino detector of Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is designed to have 20 kiloton liquid scintillator and about 16,000 pieces of 20 inch PMT.Hamamatsu lately develops the new large area PMT, 20-inch R12860, with high quantum efficiency of about 30%.Here the new PMTs’ performances are studied, including the quantum efficiency, gain, dark rate, and Peak/Valley ratio (P/V) of single photo-electron.
