A Bipartite Kronig-Penny Model with Dirac Potential Scatterers | Thomas Benjamin Smith
; Alessandro Principi
; | Date: |
21 Mar 2019 | Abstract: | Here we present a simple extension to the age-old Kronig-Penny model through
dimerisation of the system by varying the scatterer separations or potential
heights. In doing so, the system is made to be bipartite and thus the potential
for chiral (sublattice) symmetry is introduced. This is then seen to be present
for certain cases for which topologically protected edge states are shown to
exist. The topological invariant is shown to reside not only in the Zak phase
but also in the winding of the reflection coefficient of the unit cell. The
cases in which chiral symmetry is absent are then shown to not host
topologically protected edge states, which is verified by the behaviour of the
winding of the reflection coefficient and the Zak phase. | Source: | arXiv, 1903.9159 | Services: | Forum | Review | PDF | Favorites |
