Heat production and temperature regulation in eastern skunk cabbage | R M Knutson
; | Date: |
22 Nov 1974 | Journal: | Science, 186 (4165), 746-7 | Abstract: | The spadix of Symplocarpus foetidus L. maintains an internal temperature 15 degrees to 35 degrees C above ambient air temperatures of -15 degrees to +15 degrees C. For at least 14 days it consumes oxygen at a rate comparable to that of homeothermic animals of equivalent size. Temperature regulation is accomplished by variations in respiratory rate. | Source: | PubMed, pmid4417289 | Services: | Forum | Review | Favorites |
